Play Submissions

The Tesseract Theatre Company is seeking out new original full-length plays.

We are looking for plays from Midwest playwrights that have yet to be produced in St. Louis.  We will provide a venue and actors to perform a dramatic reading of your script and allow an audience a chance to provide feedback for the author.  If we select your script, and you’d like to be present (although not necessary if outside of St. Louis) for the reading, we will work with you on a date that works for all involved.

If the theatre company especially likes your play, we will present you with a chance to have it produced during our regular Fall/Spring season!  And if the Tesseract Theatre Company produces the play, we will pay the playwright a fee of $400 for letting us produce their work.

Also, at least one play from our selected readings will get chosen for production in our next season.  We are in the business to produce new work, not simply have a reading festival.  We consider the reading slots a great first step in development and terrific chance for the playwright to experience Tesseract Theatre and vice versa.  We are in business to build healthy relationships as well as develop new theatrical works.

There are no time limits or due dates or script requirements, per se.  If we fill all the reading spots for the upcoming months, we will hold on to your script for the next go around of scheduling.  And while we encourage all types of plays to be submitted, it is in the writer’s best interest to keep our mission statement in mind:

“The Tesseract Theatre Company’s mission is to emphasize the diversity and significance of multiracial casting in the regional theatre spectrum of the Midwest through the art of ensemble performance and the ability to mix new writings from a company of local playwrights with existing works from the national canon.”

We encourage diversity in theatre on all aspects and strive to be relevant to any and all conversations going on out in the world.

We are here to support local playwrights and are trying to help them achieve their vision all the way to the stage.  And please visit our website or email us if you want any further information on what exactly The Tesseract Theatre Company is.
