what is a tesseract?
tesseract [tes-uh-rakt]
noun
the generalization of a cube to four dimensions.

our definition:
we subscribe to the idea that a tesseract is a fourth dimensional object unraveled to three dimensions and, as three dimensional beings, we will never truly visualize a fourth dimensional object.

as a theatre company we recognize life as this fourth dimensional object that we can’t see or comprehend perfectly, but use the art form of theatre to unravel life and its mysteries so our three dimensional minds can better understand issues and tough subject matter.

to us, the stage, the script, the actors, director, playwright, designers, lights and spectacle, the audience itself, form our tesseract.

The Tesseract Theatre Company was founded in 2010 and is recognized as a non-profit organization with a tax exempt 501(c)3 status.

Tesseract’s Plan

Tesseract Theatre is enjoying the fact that it is a young theatre program and can experiment with innovative ideas being brought up in the realm of professional theatre. Offering free quality theatre to the community is a risky step in solidifying a company, but Tesseract hopes that this will jump start a younger audience into being introduced to new play development. This also allows the community to take a chance on seeing something outside of their comfort zone, letting Tesseract bring up social issues that might be controversial, but produced with high quality making sure it grows an audience base.

Having a contemporary mindset on what theatre can be, Tesseract is allowing anything to be added to the conversation of what new theatre can do. There are several blogs and articles posted on a regular basis by theatre professionals from around the country

expressing experimental ideas on how theatre can better itself on a local level, but the article will also express how theatre companies are set in their ways and can’t afford to experiment or try different approaches. This is where Tesseract Theatre takes up the dares set forth by these national professionals. The board of Tesseract is completely volunteer (along with their duties as director, stage manager, tech design, etc), donations excepted at a production event will go straight to the actors of that particular production on top of

their pay from the company, new playwrights will get paid for their work that is produced, local professionals are brought in to be paid guest responders who will give professional feedback to a new work from a local playwright, and new actors that are invited to join the ensemble of the Tesseract Theatre company will not be allowed to audition for a spot, but must be seen by a member of the board, forcing the board members to see a great deal of local theatre outside of their own.
